Happy Fourth of July!

Last year, we went to LA to visit my in-laws.  This year, we are stuck here in the Bay Area.

Anyhow, I wanted to share with my readers a few drawing by the outstanding cartoonist Arthur Szyk.  Szyk was a Polish-born Jew who fled to the US in 1940, becoming a citizen after the War.  He’s most famous for his World War Two posters and political cartoons as well as Biblical and Judaic drawings.  But he also did patriotic American artwork. Here is some of it:

UPDATE: 4th of July links:

Terrific posts on American Revolutionary history from Maggie.

Jonathan Tobin: The Ideals of the Glorious Fourth.

From Conservatives on Fire: Will we learn to love our masters?

Bob had lots of bitter and funny posts lately.  I think she might be angry about something.  She had a whole bunch of Independence day entries, and I think this one stands out.

David Forsmark: 7 Most Badass Founding Fathers.  If they could do it, we can…

Harrison of Capitol Commentary wishes us a happy Fourth and has a depressing cartoon.  See it here.

Citizen Tom: Will We Dishonor the Price They Paid?

Related thoughts from Conservative Hideout.

More badass.  King Shamus has an awesome Reagan portrait.

Professor Jacobson: Just a Little Neighborhood Fourth of July.  We have a big parade here, believe it or not, and it’s noteworthy for both good and bad things happening.  I took a few pictures, but I’m not going to post them for privacy reasons.

Via Smitty, Bibi Netanyahu wishes us a happy Independence Day:

And finally, via Bookworm Room, a straight forward rock-n-roll rendition of The Star Spangled Banner by Madison Rising is about 45 years overdue:

UPDATE 2: The Camp of Saints calls the Bibi video above “this year’s Independence Day greeting from The Leader Of The Free World”.

Daniel Mitchell has more Obamacare 4th of July cartoons.

UPDATE 3: An awesome Spengler essay about the National Anthem (via Instapundit).
