Why Rush Didn’t Need to Apologize to Sandra Fluke

Yes, his sponsors threatened to quit, but some did anyway.  More importantly, there was no moral imperative to do so because I doubt a modern woman like Ms. Fluke is insulted by Rush’s word choice.  And get this, our President who doesn’t want his daughter to be punished with a baby, called Sandra Fluke to see how she’s coping with Rush’s comments.  What a phony!

These day and age being accused of sleeping around — even for money — is not a big a deal.  “Slut” is simply a semi-rude word (we all can think of stronger expressions) for behavior that is not exactly unacceptable, and in some circles is even desirable.  In the era of 3rd wave feminism, when women are called sluts, they buy skimpy outfits and go on parades. Hence the Slutwalk phenomenon sweeping Europe and North America.

Rush didn’t ruin Sandra Fluke’s reputation, and if she is losing any sleep at all, that’s because she’s exposed her for a lair.

And this is my sharp tongue, I say what I want

Being called a psycho or a racist, on the other hand is seriously damaging.  While I agree that racists should be ran out of polite society, this should apply to the real hate only.

I have a feeling their parents are proud of them

Calling Ms. Fluke a slut is not a new low for American political commentary.  HBO’s recent film Game Change, for instance, is an ad hominem attack on Sarah Palin, and great many leftty pundits are cheering the tragic death of Andrew Breitbart.  The film made Sarah Palin look like a head case.  Two years ago, Beitbart was falsely accused of manipulating Shirley Sherrod tapes and called a racist.  As the Shirley Sherrod affair was unfolding I thought “Gosh, Andrew Breitbart must have a heart made of steel!”

Judged by contemporary standards, Rush’s word choice was rather mild.  The substance of his comments, however, is dangerous.

    • I try to teach myself a little mommy photography and I’m mystified by this picture. It looks like the photographer used a photo-journalistic trick (zoom out and move really close), something that professionals do to get dynamic composition. He came up with a distorted pic where the woman’s behind appeared larger than it is, and her fat squeezed tighter. Why a presumably sympathetic photographer didn’t notice the effect and a presumably sympathetic editor made the already grotesque event look even more unflattering I don’t know. Maybe journalists are not that bright after all…

  4. See they can call themselves that, they way blacks call each other “nigger.”

Also, Rush knew what would happen… he’s good at generating his own PR… I’m not buying this at all.

Actually, BOTH sides know how to stir their people up.

Stirred up, angry people don’t think so they follow… mooooo…. mooooo.

    • My point was not so much that feminists have no problem calling themselves sluts, but that in general in our age sexual promiscuity is not viewed all that negatively. Our good boys and girls are serial monogamists, and people who are saving themselves for marriage are widely believed to be asexual.
Tell a modern woman that she’s a slut, and the response you are most likely to get is: “What do you call a man who sleeps around?”
I don’t think Rush believed that advertisers will drop him, mostly because this is such a dumb thing to do on their part.

      • Rush knew… well played by him. What Rush thinks is good for him is not necessarily good for the Republican Party.

        • What does he get to gain by losing sponsors?

          • He himself said he’s not afraid of losing sponsors… he will get new ones. But what he did do is get his name front and center out there and, in turn, will get a bigger audience.

            Comment by Harrison — March 6, 2012 @ 9:59 pm

          • He did say it, and I’m sure he will do great in a long run. But I don’t think it was some sort of plan on his part to lose his sponsors in order to gain different ones. It’s the sponsorship drop that’s getting him most attention, not that he called some damsel in distress a slut.

  5. It seems the sluts, er, the modern feminist women, are trying to have their cake and eat it too. “I want to do whatever I want with my body. But don’t call me out on it. That’s hatred!”

  7. Just linked in two of my recent. I wondered what a “slut walk” was. Now I know.

  8. I’ve got a cross point, similar to Infidel, especially regarding that sign about sex being something people do together, not to someone else. Square the feminist “no, means no” and it’s my body I do as I please with it and Slut Walks and the surprising, to some, popularity among supposedly enlightened women of the quasi S&M Fifty Shades of Grey. Always with them twisting logic for eating and having cake. How do they do this one? Thinking, thinking…

    • From what I remember, female sexual dominance was sold as a part of 3rd wave feminism in the 90s. The women who were in their 20s then are today’s stay at home moms…

  11. I still don’t know for sure why Fluke even bothered to open her mouth. If she is really so concerned about the price of the pill, how could she not know you can get it for $9/mo at Target? This was grandstanding at it best (worst?). The un-slut wanted face time with Pelosi and then old Rush made it worse. Can you say D’OH!

  12. do your research and read the link you posted. slut walk is a movement against today’s rape culture, i.e. if you dress a certain way, then you are ASKING to be raped. read the orange sign in your own last image: “a dress is not a yes”. skimpy clothes does not equate to consent.

“slut” is a term that vilifies a woman’s right to say yes, (and “friendzone” vilifies her right to say no).

just because you know worst words than slut doesn’t excuse it’s use in media, by politicians, etc. just because there is precedent does not excuse this misogynistic behavior.
