Dear HBO, Please Keep Bill Maher

Now that Rush Limbaugh is catching all this flack for saying that a woman who wants strangers to pay for her sex life is a slut, fingers point at Bill Maher, and the liberal “comedian” is feeling discomfort.  When a few days ago he boasted “I don’t have sponsors, I’m on HBO”, he now feels it’s important to tweet out a Limbaugh defense:

So dear HBO, please keep Bill Maher.  Sure, he said dumb nasty things about women, Sarah Palin in particular.  The Alaska Governor and her family were the target of his “jokes” so often, one has to conclude that the man is obsessed with her.  Not going to repeat any of it, but Kirsten Powers conveniently provided us with a list of choice liberal misogyny.

The pure venom of liberal insults makes one suspect that Maher, Taibbi, Olbermann and their likes spend their working hours thinking of ways to put down conservative women.  Rush, on the other hand, was jovially illustrating a point about dependency.

Since everyone tells me that Maher’s audience is so enlightened, his trademark x-rated name-calling must be a sign of high intelligence.  Oh, but here is Christopher Hitchens flipping off the culturati inThe Real Time audience — twice! — and telling them that none of them is smarter then George Bush.  Oooh, that must have hurt:

Maybe providing Maher with a platform is not a civilized thing to do, but what do I know about mid-high brow (or is it a high mid-brow?) TV entertainment?  We dropped HBO from our cable package a week after the final episode of The Sopranos aired.  I’m glad Bill Maher is on HBO.  If they let him go, they might actually hire a smart and funny lefty.  Bill Maher is neither.  I let the cat out of the bag on that one, didn’t I?

Let’s not forget, though, that Maher donated a million dollars to Obama’s PAC Priorities USA.

  1. I guess we should be thankful that Maher doesn’t have as big a following as Rush or he might have given Obama even more.
