Can We Get POTUS on Record on that Pesky Polygamy Issue?

Oh dears.  Barack Hussein Obama worked up the nerve to publicly come out in favor of something we all (save a few black Democrats in denial) knew he favored, namely gay marriage.  Of course we knew!  After all, shouldn’t he side with the cool kids on this issue?

Also, he needs to shore up the base, and the base, unlike voters as a whole, who will in most likelihood vote on the economy in 2012, loves culture wars.  Well, some in the base, at least, particularly his gay donors and their friends.

Oh, but while we are talking about marriage, can we please get our president on record regarding polygamy.  Since his name graces the cover of a book called “Dreams from My Father”, and it’s all about the young man searching for his roots and struggling with his identity.  As it happens, the young man’s dad, the person whose first name he carries, was a polygamist, and not particularly nice to his mom, for that matter.  Did POTUS, our authority on everything marriage, ever struggle with that fact, I wonder?  If not, then why did he decide misogyny is unimportant, or at least not important enough to be discussed in his book?  I’m sure plenty of women voters would like to know.

Then there are his Pakistani roommates.  Polygamy is legal in Pakeestan.  According to Obama’s real life New York ex located by David Maraniss, Obama thought his Pakistani friends “partied too much and too hard”, whatever that means.  Interesting to know what the attitudes of these men were, and if Barack shared any of them.  Curious to note that our President got along with men raised in a polygamous society so well.

I mean, really, can we get him on record on this issue, please?

ONE MORE THING: I see a lot of headlines about ‘Bamster “evolving”or his mind being “changed” on gay marriage.  Not so.  He was always for it; he merely flip-flopped for political expediency.

  1. After gay marriage, what’s next? If I can marry another man, why can’t I marry three other women? This issue is a slippery slope. What if someone falls deeply in love with their dog? Can they marry him/her too? Where does it end?

  2. Maybe he can do a composite on the issue and be in favor of it in limited cases?

  3. well heck, if you expect him to come down against his father’s polygamy, next thing I know you’ll be expecting him to come down against his father’s communism . . .. .

  4. I think he would say he is against polygamy. He wouldn’t stand a chance in a fair fight against Moochelle.

    • Actually, that’s another direction to take this whole issue. We need to get Michelle’s opinion on her hubby’s family polygamy. How could she marry the man who seems so nonchalant about it.

  6. Edge, i just read this article and thought you might be interested to read it. it really gets into the polygamy issue.

    • Thank you, Jim. I thought it was a really good piece. One thing to ad, though. It’s usually women who are adamantly opposed to polygamy, but men are the ones who have more to lose. Men might imagine themselves with a harem, but statistically they are more likely to end up as eunuchs. It won’t take a very large number of men marrying more then one woman to seriously skew the ratio. Not the kind of society I want for my children.

      • What is a society without social norms? It’s no society at all. When there are no social norms, the rule of law will be the next to go and we end up with anarchy.

        • Exactly. And the concept of marriage is not about what citizens get to do; we can pretty much do anything in the privacy of our own bedrooms. It about the kind of relationships our society puts in a special category. Marriage as a right is not marriage at all.
