Egyptian Imperialism

Filed under: Middle East — Tags: , , — edge of the sandbox @ 9:21 am

The good news is that he barely squeaked in.  Egyptians elected a Muslim Brother Mohamed Morsi to be the President of their country.  Here he is, rapping that Egyptian capital shell not be Cairo, Mecca or Medina, but Jerusalem:

However, in may this year, an overwhelming majority of Egyptians (75% to be exact) said that they don’t want war with Israel, and 56% think it’s important to continue with the peace treaty.  One suspects they tried in 1948, 1967 and finally learned their lesson in 1973.  Still, their saber rattling should be taken seriously.  Israel should be prepared for war and the US should withhold aid.  A full-blown hot war, however, is probably not going to happen.

  3. You want a timeline for war? Look at how long it took the dictators who took over in Germany and Italy in the wake of the Great Depression to consolidate their power and start a war.

Will we have a full blown war? If we and the Europeans allow our economies to crump and leave a power vaccuum, whatever we have it won’t be pretty.

    • It’s a good point. However, I don’t think hot war between European powers is likely today simply because they just don’t have young men to fight it. Arab nations don’t do well in wars against Western armies, they prefer irregular warfare.

      • Some people would say Europe is in the process of being conquered by Islam.

The instability produced by Islamic immigration is bad enough. The fact that critical oil reserves are located in unstable nations just heaps more instability. Add that to our own culture war and we have a real problem. The question is who will take advantage of the power vacuum. If history offers a precedent, I would guess Russia and China will continue step up their efforts to build up their military forces. What will India, Japan, and other Asian nations do? Time will tell.

        • I agree with the part about Islam. If current trends continue (and I don’t see how they will not continue) I think Europe will be Islamicized. But I just don’t see how there could be a war between the nation states of Europe even if they elect Neo-Nazis, like Greece did.
